Concepts and reason

The concept used to solve this question is use the functioning of the given reagent LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} . It is a reducing agent and is used in reduction of a wide variety of functional groups. The given starting material is an amide, so the product formed by the reduction of amide in presence of LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} is the answer.

Fundamentals

Organic chemistry is a branch of chemistry which deals with the synthesis of scaffolds using different reagents by taking specific synthetic route. Every reagent has a specific application which can be used in the synthesis for the functional group transformation. The functional group in the compounds decides the reactivity of the compounds.

The given reagent is LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} . The systematic name of this reagent is lithium aluminum hydride. The structure of LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} is as follows:

From the name itself, it is clear that it consists of hydride ion which is ready to attack on the electron deficient site of the compounds. So it acts as reducing agent. It is used in reduction of a wide variety of functional groups like carboxylic acid and their derivatives, carbonyl compounds, nitro compounds, nitrile compounds and so on. The reactions of carboxylic acid and their derivatives with LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} are shown below.

Hence, the formation of product in the LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} reaction depends on the functional group present on the starting material.

The structure of starting material is shown below.

In the above structure, carbon atom of C=O bond is bonded to nitrogen atom, so it is an amide bond. Thus, the given compound is a cyclic amide, which is also called as lactam.

Therefore, the functional group present in the starting material is “amide” functional group.

The given starting material is an aromatic lactam and it consists of an amide functional group.

According to reactions of LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} with the carboxylic acid derivatives, when an amide is treated with LiAlH4{\rm{LiAl}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{4}}} , the carbonyl bond (C=O) of amide is reduced to CH2{\rm{C}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{2}}} group and forms an amine as product.

Therefore, the given reaction can be written as follows:

Thus, the organic product of the given reaction is shown below.

Ans:

The organic product of the given reaction is as follows:
