Media play important roles in society. They report on current events, provide frameworks for interpretation, mobilise citizens with regard to various issues, reproduce predominant culture and society, and entertain .As such, the media can be an important actor in the promotion of gender equality, both within the working environment (in terms of employment and promotion of female staff at all levels) and in the representation of women and men .
The media wants to portray the reality only but sometimes it has many issues like - TFR rating , political pressure , interest of its viewers that may their accuracy . To handle above the aspects they try to add some spices in the stories which are not real and some time they protray in a totally opposite way . It can be said that almost 70% is accurate what they protray while the rest 20-30% is in the air . And this 20-30% influences the people most and they act according to that in the real society . Due to which their is so much misunderstanding in the real society like for example - in most of the medical series the nurses are shown as seductive , they don't their work ,they are to their to give pleasure to the patients and doctors etc . But the reality is totally opposite . They are so hardworking even they have do to double duties , straight 8-10 night duties ,don't get pay according to their work and they are the one who is always with the patient to take care even more than doctors . They don't do the nonsense things which are shown in these series . What actually happens because of this portrayal is that a fixed picture of nurse that what are nurses get imprinted in the people's mind . One of my friend also had a bad experience due to this - one boy has come to see her for marriage proposal and he directly asks her that what you all people do at night duties . It was so disgusting and insulting because have imprinted the bad image of nurses in their minds and also don't give value to their services, for them we are like aids who bath the patient help them in daily activities etc .
Do you think the portrayal of social class or gender in the media (whether in television...
