In eukaryotes siRNA (small interfering RNA) and miRNA (micro RNA) have important role in regulation of gene expression.

Longer segments of dsRNA cleaved by Dicer to form siRNA which  assembles into RISC( RNA induced silencing complex) and forms complementary base pairing with targeted mRNA leading to heterochromatisation or degradation of mRNA.

miRNA mainly involved in translation inhibition.
