ZnO crystallizes in the same structure as ZnS (wurtzite). That means, you can conceptually build a ZnO unit cell by starting with ZnS and replacing each sulfur atom with oxygen. How would you expect the dimensions of the ZnS unit cell to compare with those of the ZnO unit cell? Please provide structures if possible. Thanks.

Answer #1

Consider the size of the O2- and S2- atoms. S2- is larger than O2-. If we conceptually remove the S2- and replace them with O2- in the lattice, The unit cell dimension of ZnO will be smaller than the unit cell dimension of ZnS. This can even be calculated if the density of the crystal and radii of the ions are known. the structure is a face-centered unit cell as shown below.

Face-Centered structure reality, these io ns touch each other. Hence, when replaced by 02-, th dimensions of the unit cell wi

Week 10- Constitutional isomers Constitutional isomers have the same molecular formula, but their atoms are bonded in different orders. These may be further distinguished as chain isomers, which differ only in hydrocarbon chain structure, positional isomers, which differ in the location of a functional group, and functional group isomers which differ in the nature of their functional groups. Typically chain and position isomers show only modest differences in their physical and chemical properties, while functional group isomers differ greatly from...

To each carbon add one carbon, one hydrogen, and one oxygen. To complete the structure, Ti the remaining hydrogen atoms. Remember, a model is not different if it is completely superimposable on one already constructed! 13. How many stereochemically different models are possible for 2,3-butanediol? 14. Please read the article and answer about questions. You and the Law Business and law are inseparable. For B-Money, the two predictably merged when he was negotiat- ing a deal for his tracks. At other times, the merger is unpredictable, like when your business faces an unexpected auto accident, product recall, or government regulation change. In either type of situation, when business owners know the law, they can better protect themselves and sometimes even avoid the problems completely. This chapter...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
