Strict respiror require strict oxygen condition do it is strict aerobes while strict ananerobes doesnot require oxygen in strict sense.

So both are different.

Thioglycolate medium is used for checking oxygen requiring condition for bacteria as this medium consume oxygen slowely so those bacteria which is strict aerobes grow at top to gain oxygen from surface of this medium while strict anartobes grown botton down away from surface to avoid any contact with oxygen.
