Reason -

  • They appear much more frequent in males vs females. This is because, males have one copy of the X chromosome, so, if they have diseased allele then it will be expressed. In case of females, they have two copies of the X chromosome and if one copy is affected then the diseased will not express, as two copies of the diseased allele are required for the individual to be diseased.
  • Females are carriers because to be diseased, they need to have two copies of the diseased X chromosome.
  • Affected males can pass the gene to their daughters, but they are usually unaffected. This is because for daughters to be affected they must get a diseased X chromosome from their mother and if daughters get a normal X chromosome from mother then they are unaffected.
