Question

Problem Il: Refers to questions 7 and 8 The following problem refers to a new support for a Pier in the San Diego, CA area. The mix design for a pier support not placed placed under water was made assuming the available coarse aggregates were angular. The mix design calculations resulted in an amount of water of 295 lb/yds before moisture corrections were made. You are asked to modify the amount of water and cement for a support that wil be placed under water using a wfc ratio of 0.45. The available coarse aggregates for this application are round aggregates. 7) The mass of mixing water in pounds per cubic yard before moisture corrections is: A) 250 B) 295 C) 260 D) 254 8) The mass of cement in pounds per cubic yard is: A) 556 B) 656 C) 578 미 650 Problem Il: Refers to questions 9 and 10 A concrete with a 3-in slump, w/c ratio of 0.50 and sand with FM-2.6 contains 2000 Ib/yd of gravel with a ¼-in nominal maximum of aggregate. In order to increase the strength of the mix the w/c ratio was reduced to 0.45, 9) The required weight of coarse aggregate in pounds per cubic yard for the concrete with w/c- 0.50 is A) 2000 B) 1280 C) 1260 DI 1408 10] The required weight of coarse agpregate in pounds per cubic yard for the concrete with w/c= 0.45 when compared to that with w/c =0.50 is A) Less B) More C) The same D] Need the aggregate shape to answer this question

Answer #1

7. Correct option is B as in the answer it is given that moisture reqired per cubic yard is 295 lb in the question

8. Correct option is B as the water cement ratio is 0.45 and amount of cement is 295/0.45= 655.55= 656 lb

9. Correct option is A as in the answer it is given that gravel is 2000lb/cubic feet.

10. Correct option is C as water content change only effect the amount of water added to concrete and no other compound amount is changed.
