Answer #1

Increase in oxidation number is known as oxidation and decrease in oxidation number (O.N) is known as reduction.

Oxidation half reaction :-

2Cl^-(aq) ------->Cl2(aq) + 2e^- . ----------(1)

ClO4^-(aq) + 6H^+(aq) + 6e^- ------> ClO^-(aq) +3H2O(l) ----(2)

Multiply (1) by 3 and add with (2)

6Cl^-(aq) -----> 3Cl2(aq)+ 6e^-

ClO4^-(aq) + 6H^+(aq) + 6e^- -----> ClO^-(aq) + 3 H2O (l)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ClO4^-(aq) + 6 Cl^-(aq) + 6H^+(aq) -----> 3Cl2(aq) + ClO^-(aq) + 3H2O(l)

Coefficient of H^+ = 6
