Goal 1: knowledge base in psychology

“Students should demonstrate fundamental knowledge and comprehension of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and empirical findings to discuss how psychological principles apply to behavioral problems” (Guidelines 2.0, 2013, p 17).

• Outcome 1.1. Students will describe key concepts, principles and overarching themes in psychology (five indicators for each level of progress).
• Outcome 1.2. Students will develop a working knowledge of psychology’s content domains (five indicators).
• Outcome 1.3. Students will describe applications of psychology (four indicators).

From the given outcomes I would like to improve in the 1^st outcome as the overarching themes of psychology could take longer time to master as compared to the basic principles and key concepts. I would have worked my way through all the outcomes but when it comes to proving someone, I would like to indulge them into the practical applications of psychology so that they can see I have grip on the concepts and I can apply them to real life problems to find solutions for them. I think I would be strongest in the third outcome as compared to others. When we talk about weak outcome that I haven’t mastered yet would be 1^st. when it comes to undergraduate scenario, I think these outcomes are important as they would be vital during class and in examination as they are the basic concepts which would help anyone to set their roots and if they got the basics right it will help them in the long run. Similarly when we look at the professional side of these outcomes in employment, they will be required during practice as therapist, without strong base, you cannot get ahead as practitioner, as you have to be able to explain what issue your client is experiencing in a clear, easy, informative way which could be only done, when you have good knowledge yourself because telling them complex information or stating facts in unclear manner would make them more anxious rather than clam.
