Why don't people move up the social ladder and stay close to their initial status?
There are many reasons why people don’t move up to the social ladder and stay close to their initial stage. First of all, they have an accumulated and inherited social disadvantage that would prevent them from moving up the social ladder. This invisible disadvantage could be their race, religion or even their ethnicity. Secondly, these people are discriminated either exclusively or indirectly by the majority thus they would struggle to find their top place in the social ladder. Thirdly, they would have income only to look after themselves, thus would struggle to make both the ends meet. This means they won’t have anything to save for the future and they would remain in the low paying jobs forever. Finally, their inability to stay focused and earn more due to their drug use, alcohol addiction etc.
