A researcher knows the average weight of American men between the ages of 30 and 50 is 154 pounds. For a random sample of heart patients, body weights are recorded. The data are as follows: 135, 178, 213, 180, 180, 182, 210, 187, 170, 189, 232, 153, 169, 195, 183, 153, 206, 195, 225, 199, and 167. The researcher would like to determine if men who have heart attacks between those ages are heavier than the average 30 to 50-year-old male.

(Excel will be used to run the data and conduct the hypothesis testing. You must provide the Excel output to answer following questions).

a.Write out the null and alternative hypothesis associated with the research question. Is this a one or two tailed test?

b.What type of statistical test will you use to answer the proposed research question? Is this a z-test or a t-test?

c.What critical value is associated with the 0.01 level of significance? Be sure and include whether this critical value is a z or t value and, if appropriate, include the degrees of freedom associated with this statistical test.

d.What is the calculated value of the test statistic?

e.What decision should be made regarding the null hypothesis?

f.Provide a brief conclusion regarding your findings. Use your power point lecture slides for writing out the interpretation of your results.
