Our Discussion for this week will focus on prostitution and pornography. Please respond to the following questions/statements:

• Do you think pornography is harmful to American society? Do you think that pornography should be restricted in the United States? Explain your answers.

• With regard to the Thinking Critically About Social Problems section on page 75 of the textbook, do you think prostitution should be legalized? Explain your viewpoint.

I think pornography is bad for the society because firstly, it would distract people and motivate them to think about sex all the time. If one continuously watches pornography, one would be looking to perform that act in real life without worrying about the social, ethical and economical implications. Secondly, people would use morphed pictures of innocent women and shame them. People who make pornography would also be hunting for new people to act in pornography thus would kidnap children and young women because child sex is one of the most dangerous things. Finally, it would make the society a worst place to live because people who watch pornography continuously would be hunting for victims who would be their prey.

I think prostitution needs to be legalized and things should become more transparent. When prostitution is legalized, women who are engaged in prostitution would get their money, would feel safe and remain secure in their places. This would also ensure that the system reveal those men who look for prostitutes while having a family. It would reduce the number of people who pimp and dominate women.
