Using the thermodynamic information in the ALEKS Data tab, calculate the standard reaction free energy of the following chemical reaction:

N2g+3H2g→2NH3g

Round your answer to zero decimal places.

substance AH;° (kJ/mol) AGiº (kJ/mol) Sº (J/mol-K)

Hydrogen H2 (9) 130.7

Nitrogen N2 (9) 191.6 N2H4 (9) 95.4 159.4 238.5 N2H4(0) 50.6 149.3 121.2 NH3 (9) -45.9 -16.4 192.8 NH3 (1) -69.54 -26.50 95.0

Answer #1

Balanced reaction : N2 (g) + 3 H2 (g) 2 NH3 (g)

Standard reaction free energy, Go = Gof products - Gof reactants

Go = 2 * Gof NH3 (g) - [Gof N2 (g) + 3 * Gof H2 (g)]

Go = 2 * (-16.4 kJ/mol) - [(0) + 3 * (0)]

Go = -32.8 kJ - 0

Go = -33 kJ    (rounded to zero decimal places)
