Calculate DHrxn for the reaction: CaO(s) + CO2(g) à CaCO3(s) given these reactions and their DH’s:
1) Ca(s) + CO2(g) + ½ O2(g) à CaCO3(s) DH = -814.1kJ
2) 2Ca(s) + O2(g) à 2 CaO (s) DH = -1269.8kJ
Ca(s) + CO2(g) + 1/2O2(g) -> CaCO3(s) ∆H = -814.1 KJ
Reversing second equation and reducing the coefficients to half, we get :
CaO(s) -> Ca(s) + 1/2O2(g) ∆H = 1269.8/2 = 634.9 KJ
Adding both above equation, we get :
CaO(s) + CO2(g) -> CaCO3(s)
∆H = -814.1+634.9
= -179.2 KJ
