A 9.0-cm -long wire is pulled along a U-shaped conducting rail in a perpendicular magnetic field. The total resistance of the wire and rail is 0.33 Ω . Pulling the wire with a force of 1.1 N causes 3.9 W of power to be dissipated in the circuit. |
Part A What is the speed of the wire when pulled with 1.1 N ? Express your answer in meters per second.
SubmitRequest Answer Part B What is the strength of the magnetic field? Express your answer in tesla.

Potential difference generated (Pd) = BVL
Force = BIL
given power dissipated = I^2*R = 3.9 W
and R = 0.33 Ohm
this gives current = 3.43A
Pd = IR = 3.43*0.33 = 1.1319 V
Also B = F/(IL) = 1.1/(3.43*0.09) = 3.555 T
also V = Pd/(BL) = 1.1319/(3.555*0.09) = 3.537 m/s
Hence (a) V = 3.537m/s
(b) B = 3.555 T
