Question

In the figure eight particles form a square in which distance d = 3.10 cm. The charges are q1 = +7e, q2 = +2e, q3 = -7e, q4 = -5e, q5 = +7e, q6 = +2e, q7 = -7e, and q8 = +6e. What is (a) the x component and (b) the y component of the net electric field at the square's center?Your answer is partially correct. Try again. In the figure 의ght particles form a square ln which distance d center? 3.10 cm. The charges ar q1-+7e, q2-+2e, q」- 7e, q4- 5e qs- +7e, qe- +2e,a? 7e, and q -+de what is a) the x component and b) the γ companent of the net electric eld at the squares 91 L. 16 97 Units 4P-5 N/C or V/m (b) N Units [N/c or V/m Click if you would like to Show Work for this question en Show Work

Answer #1

2. 下 = 6e 1

q1 and q5 are equal in magnitude and are at same distance from the center .hence they produce same amount of electric field at the center.

E1 = E5

Since E1 and E5 are directed in opposite direction , they cancel out each other.

q2 and q6 are equal in magnitude and are at same distance from the center .hence they produce same amount of electric field at the center.

E2 = E6

Since E2 and E6 are directed in opposite direction , they cancel out each other.

q3 and q7 are equal in magnitude and are at same distance from the center .hence they produce same amount of electric field at the center.

E3 = E7

Since E3 and E7 are directed in opposite direction , they cancel out each other.

E4 = magnitude of electric field by charge q4 = k q4/d2 = (9 x 109) (5 x 1.6 x 10-19)/(0.031)2 = 7.5 x 10-6 N/C

E8 = magnitude of electric field by charge q8 = k q8/d2 = (9 x 109) (6 x 1.6 x 10-19)/(0.031)2 = 9 x 10-6 N/C

Net electric field along the x-direction is given as

Ex = E4 + E8 = (7.5 x 10-6 ) + (9 x 10-6) = 16.5 x 10-6 N/C

b)

Net electric field along the Y-direction is given as

Ey = 0 N/C
