- ST segment in an ECG is the interval between S wave and T wave. ST segment is an isoelectric line appears between ventricular depolarization and repolarization. ST segment has a time duration of 0.005- 0.150 sec.

- ST segment elevation occurs commonly when there is an suspected myocardial injury , ischemia or inflammatory conditions of pericardium and myocardium, electrolyte imbalances, aneurysm, arrhythmias, vascular spasms ,

2) The first line of treatment of STEMI focuses on Revascularization done by medical therapy or surgical. The most common acronym to treat MI is " MONA "-

M - Morphine drugs to relieve pain

O - oxygen administration to reverse myocardial ischemia

N - Nitrates to induce vasodilation

A - Anti platelet therapy ( Aspirin) to prevent aggregation of platelets on the damaged coronary vessels.

Fibrinolytic therapy initiated with in 24 hours after the onset of symptoms. Check for contraindications of fibrinolytic therapy like current use of anticoagulants, pregnancy, lactation, bleeding disorders, traumatic CPR.

If medical Revascularization fails surgical percutaneous interventions and coronary artery bypass grafting helps to revascularize the occluded coronary arteries.
