1. Whiplash injury is defined as an acceleration-deceleration injury to the head and neck.
Whiplash is a neck injury that can occur when the head suddenly moves backward and then forward
or
Forceful, rapid, back and forth movement of the neck resulted from an accident.
The main cause of whiplash is the high-velocity impact of a motor vehicle accident
*Due to the whiplash there is acceleration/deceleration mechanism of energy transfer to the neck which can result in the body or soft tissue injuries and a variety of clinical manifestations
*He is at risk for Hyperextension injury. Injuries are range from mild Sternocleidomastoid strains to severe longus coli tears accompanied by retropharyngeal hematoma, esophageal hemorrhages, and cervical nerve damage.
2. Due to the traumatic nature of whiplash injury, there is a risk of more injuries which need to be ruled out before undergoing treatment.
The assessment includes the level of consciousness.the ability to move and the establishment of pain localization and evaluation of associated injuries.
One of the main risk factors for this case to a worsened outcome are:
*His older age
*His past medical history of myocardial infarction and hypertension
3. Due to the effects of the whiplash, he may be got some chest injury and may develop shock that results, that may lead to hypotension and low BP during expiration than inspiration and already he is having a history of myocardial infarction.
