Answer #1

1.Collection of a capillary blood specimen or of venous blood from an existing access line or by venipuncture that does not require a physician's skill or a cutdown is considered “routine venipuncture.” Venipuncture is the method used in obtaining blood samples for blood or serum lab procedures. In medicine, some blood tests are conducted on venous blood obtained by fingerstick (or fingerprick) (or, for neonates, by an analogous heelprick). The site, free of surface arterial flow, where the blood is to be collected is sterilized with a topical germicide, and the skin pierced with a sterile lancet.
