Based on our textbook, Essentials of Managed Health Care, let's include in this discussion how the board of directors came into existence and its relevance (see Chapter 3). In your own words, describe the makeup and function of the board of directors in managed care plans.

The board of directors comprises of well educated people who are selected based on their education and experience in the health field . They are selected by conducting election and the individuals who get the maximum proportion gets elected as the board of directors.

The board of directors in a healthcare sector serve as the governing body of hospital and it's responsibility is to overight the hospital. It's responsibilities include :-

- making strategic decision for the hospital

- review the overall strategy and mission

- making the mission and vision of the hospital

- hiring and monitoring effective CEO

- ensuring the hospital is providing quality care

- overseeing the hospital financial well being

- staying educated in health care industry news and best practices

- being a representative of hospital in the community.

The board of directors are not involved in the day to day operations ,it's managed by the management team .
