Childhood Obesity is a serious medical condition due to excess of body fat in children. It may lead to various chronic diseases like diabetes and high cholesterol in children. Childhood Obesity is highly prevalent in United States ( 13.7 million in children and adolescents).
Treatment plans for Childhood Obesity are based upon the age of the child and condition of the child ( presence of any medical condition). A team of health care professionals have to work for reducing and maintaining the normal body weight in child with Obesity.

* Modify the eating habits of the child for gradual weight loss while eating a healthy diet.( explained below)
* Encourage the physical activity in children not exercise : Structured exercise programme is not required for children, instead physical activity like playing by running, hide and seek or other out door games can help the child.
* Medications : are not required for small children for weight loss. Severely obese adolescents may require medications as prescribed .
example: Orlistat ( above 12 years and old) - reduces fat absorption.
* Surgical management : weight - loss surgery can be indicated only in severely Obese adolescents, who are unable to lose body weight even after and lifestyle modification.
example: Gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding, partial gastrectomy to reduce the capacity of stomach.

* Encourage the child and family for healthy eating habits
- Avoid sweetend beverages, crackers, cookies and junk foods or fast food( fast food are high in fat and calories)
- Don't eat while watching TV, family members should sit and eat together.
- Frequent assessment of Body mass index, charting weight and any associated problems ( sleep disturbances, isolation)
* Encourage activities and outdoor games such ad sports, cycling, swimming etc.
* Restrict the child from doing video or smartphone gaming for a long time.

* Encourage for balanced diet with proper amount as the child is in growing stage. Instead of restricting the food increase the activity level of child.
* Encourage the family to add more vegetables and fruits to the diet.
* Instruct family members that, there should not be separate menu for the child alone. Whole Family have to adapt a healthy eating pattern. Separating the child with special diet or restriction , make the child feel isolated.
* Avoid deep fried , oily and more fatty foods .
