Question 2 : During mammogram , the breast tissue is kept in a device , could be a rectangular in structure , where the breast is held in position and compressed . the compression depends on the size and the thickness and tautness and clients pain tolerance on compression applied over the breast tissue.

heel effect basically is the field intensity towards the anode in compare to the cathode because of x-ray emissions.it is basically from the target material at an angle perpendicular to the electron beam.

x-rays which is produced deep into the target material (breast tissue )they must traverse back out of I the tissue before they can proceed to the target field.

So one must understand the importance of the compression of the breast tissue to make the tissue lesser density for the x-rays to travel back .

The focal spot is the specific point in the place where the electron beam could have an effect on the tube anode and in turn x-rays are emitted.

the focal spot size can be determined by filament size and the cathode.                                                          

And they are determined by the manufacturer.

The x-ray tubes would have more than one focal spot size.
