Question

can you help me with this problem, since I don't know which charges I have to consider in summing the different contributes of the energy.

thanks

Question Hydrogen bonding is responsible for many of the unusual properties of water. A simplified A model represents a hydrogen bond as the electrostatic interaction of four point charges arranged along a straight line, as shown in the figure. Round your intermediate calculations and final answers to 4 significant figures. (a) Using this model, estimate the energy that must be supplied to break a single hydrogen bond net (b) Estimate the energy that must be supplied to break the hydrogen bonds in 1 kg of liquid water. ×10 I J Hydrogen bond DI 0.35e+0.35e он 0.35e +0.35e0.1 nm 0.14 nm 0.1 nm

Answer #1

Summary of result:-Energy required to break the bond between two polar molecules will be equal to the energy given to it to make its total energy zero.In other words we can say that this energy will be equal to the electrostatic potential energy of molecuar configuration but with oposite sign

Part(b) of problem is simply based upon finding the number of molecules in its certain mass. This can be calculated by knowing the number of moles and then by multiplying no. of moles with Avagadro number.

1 out of 8 attempts The two strands of the DNA molecule are held together by hydrogen bonds between base pairs. When an enzyme unzips the molecule to separate the two strands, it has to break these hydrogen bonds. A simplified model represents a hydrogen bond as the electrostatic interaction of four point charges arranged along a straight line. The figure shows the arrangement of charges for one of the hydrogen bonds between adenine and thymine. Estimate the energy that...
