Answer #1

Dental and oral hygiene plays a significant role in an individuals overall health. If the oral hygiene is not maintained appropriately the person may go for many ill effects which may lead to even fatal conditions where the infection spreads from the oral towards the respiratory system.

The US survey shows more than 40% of the children are affected with dental caries and are not treated as they belong to low income and racial/ ethnic minorities. Even the adults had a flat dental health compared to the children.

The main reason would was the racial and income based disparities. This also lead more in the patients who are disabled and were in long term care due to the poverty. This lead the country to face increased dental issues in children and adults.

The main barrier of accessing to oral health is poor education regarding the importance of oral health and also financial instability which leads the population not to consult and get treated their dental problems. The geographic location also becomes a reason whereby access to dental health is inhibited, the cultural and ethnic barriers too contribute to decreased dental health.

The other barriers of oral health in the rural communities include poor provider to the population, inadequate dentists to accept the insurance, lack of transportation for the consultation, insufficient access to water fluoridation, the cultural barriers and stigma, lack of dental insurance benefits.

The barriers of oral health care can be overcome by having the proper education to the public about the importance and its ill effects, identifying the high risk vulnerable group and screening at the earliest, removal of stigma among population with necessary resources, taking into consideration about the water fluoridation, encouraging the population to have the necessary dental insurance and encouraging them to utilise in a systematic way and adequately made dental health accessible to the population at grass root level.

Thus oral health issues can be identified at the earliest and proper treatment to avoid systemic ill health.
