Answer #1

Let the spill has thickness t, and the area of the resulting slick is A. The resulting slick can have any shape, but irrespective of the shape, we can write the volume V in terms of the area and the thickness.

V = A imes t

One molecule has side of length 0.5um, and the layer is one molecule thick. Therefore, the thickness of the layer is also 0.5um.

The volume is 3m

3m3 = A × 0.5pm = A × 0.5 × 10-0

3m 0.5 × 10-677 n _ 6 × 10%22

The slick is spread across 6 square Kilometres area.
