  1. Femur: it is the though bone. It forms a part of the one joint along with the tibia. It is the longest bone and is also quite strong.
  2. Tibia: it is the main weight bearing bone of the body and forms the knee joint.
  3. Fibula: it is a thin, comparatively weaker bone on the lateral aspect of the leg. It provides site of attachment of many muscles.
  4. Patella: it is a small, somewhat triangle shaped bone on the anterior aspect of the knee joint. It provides attachment to the thigh muscles and gives mobility to the knee joint.
  5. MCL and LCL: these are ligaments which strengthen the knee from the vertical plane.
  6. Quadriceps tendon: it attaches to the patella. The quadriceps are one of the strongest muscle groups and extensors of the knee joint
  7. Patellar tendon: it holds the patella in place and provides stability
  8. Menisci: these are cushion like structures on the tibial head which prevent knee joint erosion and give smoothness of movement
  9. Smooth: anterior part of the joint
  10. Rough: lateral parts of the joint
  11. The distal aspect of femur touches proximal aspect of tibia
  12. Tendons and ligaments attach on the long bones- femur and tibia
