Answer #1

The simple principle to determine the order of boiling points of given compound is:

The greater the forces of attraction the higher the boiling point or the greater the polarity the higher the boiling point.

The relative strength of the four intermolecular forces is:

Ionic > Hydrogen bonding > dipole dipole > Van der Waals dispersion forces. The influence of each of these attractive forces will depend on the functional groups present.

CH3CH2=ONH2 is an Amide. (dipole dipole and hydrogen bonding)

CH3CH2CH2 is an Alkane. (Intermolecular force present is Van der Waals dispersion)

CH3CH2COOH is an Acid. (dipole-diploe and H-bonding)

CH3CH2CO2CH2CH3 is an Ester. (dipole dipole)

In case of amide and acid of similar no of carbon atoms boiling point of amide is higher than acid.

Therefore correct order will be;

Lower Boiling Point

CH3CH2CH2

CH3CH2CO2CH2CH3

CH3CH2COOH

CH3CH2=ONH2

Higher Boiling Point
