Answer #1

Carbohydrate like glucose gets absorbed in the small intestine by villi. It is transported into intestinal epithelial cell through symport with sodium ions. This symport is maintained by gradient of sodium through sodium-potassium ion pump. It moves out of the intestinal cells by facilitated diffusion from where it enters into capillaries of villi. Then it is carried to liver through hepatic portal vein.

Lipids are absorbed as micelles by villi. It contacts the epithelial cell membrane of the villi and crosses the membrane through simple diffusion. Inside the cell, triglyceride is coated by proteins to form chylomicron which is transported by lacteal.

Small intestine has less diameter than large intestine while small intestine is more in length than large intestine.
