*Both nitrogen and phosphorus have one electron in each of the p orbital

*They are half filled and there is no repulsion from electrons in the same orbital

*Oxygen and sulfur both have one p orbital that is filled .The electronic
repulsion in the filled orbital makes it easier to remove those electrons
and results in a lower ionization energy for oxygen and sulfur when compared to
nitrogen and phosphorus respectively.
