1. The normal flora acts as a first line defense mechanism for the pathogens entering the body. It prevents the colonisation of the pathogens by competing with the attachment sites or for essential nutrition. The normal flora is present in the skin, intestine. Thus it prevents the opportunistic infections.

2. The inflammatory process is the defense mechanism wereby present in the higher organisms preventing them from the injury or pathogens. When tissue is affected by bacteria the tissues will release the chemicals like histamine, bradykinin and prostaglandin. These makes blood vessel to cause fluid leak and makes it to swell wereby acts to prevent further complications.
