In silane, Si atom contain vacant d-orbitals and thus it can accept electrons from when oxygen of ROH attack on it. Thus, silane react with alcohol but carbon don't have any vacant d-orbitals hence it can't accept electrons from oxygen of ROH thus, methane not react with alcohol.
