Answer #1

1.

a)

Due to the presence of electric charge , the object gets induced charge on it . the surface of object near the electric charge gets opposite charge as that on the electric charge and the farther surface of object gets same charge as the electric charge. hence the object gets attracted towards the charge since the attractive force is greater as compared to the repulsive force.

b)

Due to the presence of electric charge , the object gets induced charge on it . the surface of object near the electric charge gets opposite charge as that on the electric charge and the farther surface of object gets same charge as the electric charge. hence the object gets attracted towards the charge since the attractive force is greater as compared to the repulsive force.

2.

a)

E1 Q1-2.4 x 10-6 C Q2 3.5 x 10-6 C C) E2 r1 0.03 m r2 0.05 m

b)

E1 = magnitude of electric field by charge Q1 = k Q1/r12 = (9 x 109) (2.4 x 10-6)/(0.03)2 = 2.4 x 107 N/C towards right

E2 = magnitude of electric field by charge Q2 = k Q2/r22 = (9 x 109) (3.5 x 10-6)/(0.05)2 = 1.26 x 107 N/C   towards left

taking electric field in left as negative and in right as positive

Net electric field is given as

E = E1 - E2

E = (2.4 x 107) - (1.26 x 107)

E = 1.14 x 107 N/C

towards right or positive x-direction

c)

q = magnitude of charge on electron = 1.6 x 10-19 C

magnitude of electric force on the electron is given as

F = q E

F = (1.6 x 10-19) (1.14 x 107)

F = 1.824 x 10-12 N

direction : Towards left or negative x-direction ( Since a negative charge experience electric force in opposite direction of the electric field)
