Question

For each väiue of r, enter the values of a suitable function of r iH the lasto Check that which you think will result in a linear plot of force versus this new function of r the new plot is indeed linear. ANALYSIS 1. What did you observe about the magnitudes of the forces on the two charges. Were they the same or different? Does your answer depend on whether the charges were of the same magnitude or different? How does this relate to Newtons 3rd law? What did you observe about the directions of the two forces? How did the directions depend on the signs of the charges? 2. 3. Print your three graphs. 4. The graph of force vs. qiq2 should be linear. To fit a line to this data, click and drag the 4. Combine the slope of the line with the value of r in order to obtain the value (plus units) of 5. What was the function of r that resulted in your third graph being linear? 6. Combine the slope of this graph with the values of qi and q2 to again obtain the value (plus mouse across the linear region, then click Linear Fit, the Coulomb law constant. units) of the Coulomb law constant.

Answer #1

1) The magnitude of the forces on the two charges are observed to be equal.

They were same.

No, the answer does not depend on the sign of the two charges.

This is in line with the Newton's 3rd law, which says that the force that two bodies exert on each other are equal in magnitude.
