Question

5. Opportunity cost and production possibiliies Edison is a skilled toy maker who is able to produce both trucks and balls. He has 8 hours a day to produce toys. The following table shows the daily output resulting from various possible combinations of his time. Hours Producing Produced Choice (Trucks) (Balls) Trucks) (Balls) 8 0 4 03 6 2 16 19 20 6 8 (0On the following graph, use the blue points (circle symbol) to plot Edisons initial production possibilities frontier (PPF) 30 25 Initial PPF 20 New PPF 15 T 10Suppose Edison is currently using combination D, producing one truck per day. His opportunity cost of producing a second truck per day is per day. Now, suppose Edison is currently using combination C, producing two trucks per day. His opportunity cost of producing a third truck per day is per day From the previous analysis, you can determine that as Edison increases his production of trucks, his opportunity cost of producing one more truck Suppose Edison buys a new tool that enables him to produce twice as many trucks per hour as before, but it doesnt affect his ability to produce balls. Use the green points (triangle symbol) to plot his new PPF on the previous graph Because he can now make more trucks per hour, Edisons opportunity cost of producing balls is it was previously

Answer #1

Daty 2ο I 6 1 2 Old LI 1 3 Tk ク ru cAns 1)

At point D

Eddie needs 19/6=3.33 balls per hour

Eddie needs 2 hrs for 1 truck therefore if he needs to produce 1 more truck then he has to forgo 6.67 balls

Hence opportunity cost is 6.67 balls per day

Ans 2)

At point C if he tries to produce 1 more truck then he would be forgoing 8 balls per day

Opportunity cost is 8 balls per day

Ans 3)

It is increasing as you can see the trend 6.67 , 8 and then 10 balls

Ans 4)

Opportunity cost will get halved as 3.33,4 & 5
