Answer #1

Given

26.6 THz

We know that

Wavelength (λ) = c/f

c is the speed of light = 3 * 108 m/sec

f is the frequency

here

frequency is 26.6 THz = 26.6 * 1012 Hz = 26.6 * 1012 sec-1

hence

Wavelength = 3 * 108 m/sec / 26.6 * 1012 sec-1

= 1.13 * 10-5 metres

    Infrared radiation from young stars can pass through the heavy dust clouds surrounding them, allowing astronomers here on Earth to study the earliest stages of star formation, before a star begins to emit visible light. Suppose an infrared telescope is tuned to detect infrared radiation with a frequency of 5.15 THz. Calculate the wavelength of the infrared radiation. Round your answer to 3 significant digits.

    The discovery of pulsars –rotating neutron stars that generate regular pulses of radiation at their spin rate- was fortuitous. A group of astrophysicists from Cambridge University lead by Anthony Hewish was looking for quasars (these are extremely bright, compact and remote objects that emit up to a thousand times as much light as our entire galaxy). For that purpose the research group designed a radio-telescope that was built on the flat fields surrounding Cambridge in central England. This telescope did...

    To understand electromagnetic radiation and be able to perform calculations involving wavelength, frequency, and energy. Several properties are used to define waves. Every wave has a wavelength, which is the distance from peak to peak or trough to trough. Wavelength, typically given the symbol λ (lowercase Greek "lambda"), is usually measured in meters. Every wave also has a frequency, which is the number of wavelengths that pass a certain point during a given period of time. Frequency, given the symbol...

    Learning Goal: To understand electromagnetic radiation and be able to perform calculations involving wavelength, frequency, and energy. Several properties are used to define waves. Every wave has a wavelength, which is the distance from peak to peak or trough to trough. Wavelength, typically given the symbol A (lowercase Greek "lambda"), is usually measured in meters. Every wave also has a frequency, which is the number of wavelengths that pass a certain point during a given period of time. Frequency, given...
