On May 29, 1998, a 48- year old man living in Worth county, Georgia, came into the local emergency room due to a 10-day history of fever, chills, fatigue and a muscular pain. His temperature on admission was 105.3 F. Labratory examiniations demonstrated moderate anemia. On June 2, a peripheral blood smear was done and exhibited intracellular parasites. A diagnosing was confirmed by the CDC upon examination of the blood smear in addition to serologic testing. After treatment with chloronique phosphate and primaquine phosphate, all symptoms were resolved. Examination of the peripheral blood smears were clear of infecrion.

Malaria infection develop s via 2 phases

  • Exoerythrocytic phase( in the liver)
  • Erythrocytic phase ( in the RBC)

When an infected mosquito bites a person, sporozoites in the mosquito's saliva enter the blood stream and migrate to liver where they infect hepatocytes, multiplying asexually and asymptomaticallyfor a period of8-30 days.

After potential dormant period in the liver, organism differentiate to form merozoites, following rupture of theit host cells ,escape into the blood and infect RBC to begin erythrocytic phase. Within RBC, the parasites multiplies asexually, periodically breaking out of their host cells to invade freshRBC. The parasites is relatively protected from attack by the body's immune system because it's human life cycle occur only in liver and RBC
