Question

Question 1 [Sans R The mean mass of luggage checked by a randomly selected tourist-class passenger flying between two citics on a certain airlinc is 25 kg, and the variance is 100 kg2. The mcan and variance for a business-class passenger are 30 kg and 36 kg* (a). If there are 12 business-class passengers and 50 tourist-class passengers on a particular flight, what are the expected value of total luggage weight and the variance of total luggage weight? (b). If individual luggage weights are independent, normally distributed random variables, what is the probability that total luggage weight is at most 2500 lb? To do this without R, you can do standardization (see Lecture 3, slide 9) and use the table on the last page of this homework. It is important practice to do this for the exams.
