Amy is testing to see if UCI students are smarter than average. She gets a sample of 20 UCI students. Their average IQ is 118. The average IQ of all people is 100; therefore, the null hypothesis is µ = 100. We are testing to see if the mean is 100. Precisely what mean are we talking about? Explain who it is the mean of.

Answer #1

H0: Population Mean µ = 100

H1: Population Mean µ not = 100

Let the los be alpha = 5%

Test Statistic under Ho 118-100 15/V20 5.366

Critical z: 1.6449
P-Value: 0.0000
Here Z value is greater than Z critical value and P-value > alpha 0.05 so we reject H0

Thus we conclude that  Population Mean µ not = 100 i.e. The average IQ of all people is not 100

Question 16 6 pts A researcher is studying the possible effect that a certain medication administered to children has on brain development. She decides to measure the effect by analyzing IQ scores of individuals who took the medication as children. She is working under the assumption that IQ scores in this population are normally distributed with a standard deviation of 15, just as in the general population. The researcher collects a sample of 40 individuals who took the medication as...

Please Help! Need to confirm my answer. You wish to test the claim that the average IQ score is less than 100 at the .01 significance level. You determine the hypotheses are: Ho: μ = 100 H1: μ < 100 You take a simple random sample of 100 individuals and find the mean IQ score is 95.7, with a standard deviation of 16. Let's consider testing this hypothesis two ways: once with assuming the population standard deviation is not known...

Garrison Keller claims the children of Lake Wobegon are above average. You take a simple random sample of 9 children from Lake Wobegon and measure their intelligence with a Wechsler test and find the following scores: {116, 128, 125, 119, 89, 99, 105, 116, and 118}. The mean of this sample (? ̅) is 112.8. We know Wechsler scores are scaled to be normally distributed with a mean of 100 and standard deviation of 15. Is this sample mean sufficiently...
