***QUESTION IS IN BOLD
Polly is a Ecologist/Zoonotic and Infectious Disease Specialist. She was on an expedition in the rain forests of Brazil looking for plant-based natural healing products. While she was on-site, she interacted with some of the Indigenous Peoples. Interested in learning more about their culture, she was captivated by the Blow Gun method of hunting they used. But as she was trying to learn more, she accidentally fell while holding the darts and pierced her left cephalic vein with one of the darts. Polly immediately experienced difficulty breathing, she could not talk or move her left side and just collapsed. She is in a confused mental state with altered consciousness, coarse tremor, upper extremity myoclonus, positive Kernig sign, low pulse, and flaccid muscles.
What are 3 possible diagnoses (in other words, what she was poisoned with)? Include a short explanation for why you chose each possibility.
Answer: The people living in the Brazilian forest use blow un to hunt animals. This is kind of a bamboo stick where they use poison on it to kill animals. They use poison such as golden poison frog or poison dart frog etc. The probability of Polly's problem in breathing and collapse would be the insertion of the poison in her body.
The golden poison frog dart causes death within three minutes, but here she is having breathing problem and unconsciousness, unable to move her hands that means it is a temporary poison used to sedate the animals. There are mild poison also used by the forest people.
