Answer #1

HClO2 is a weak acid and hence

pH = 1/2 pKa - 1/2 log CH+

Or, 1/2 pKa = pH + 1/2 logCH+

Or, 1/2 pKa = 3.40 + 1/2 log 0.25 (as CH+ = 0.25M)

Or, 1/2 pKa = 3.40 +1/2 *(-0.602059)

= 3.40 - 0.30103

= 3.09897

Or, pKa = 6.19794

Or, -log Ka = 6.19794

Or Ka = 10-6.19794

     = 6.34 * 10-7 (Answer)
