Answer #1

Let, ‘A’ be an event that a student running in a track and ‘B’ be an event that a student long jumping in a track.

P(A) = Probability of a student running in a track.

P(B) = Probability of a student long jumping in a track.

P(AUB) = Probability of a student running in a track or long jumping in a track.

P(A ∩ B) = Probability of a student running in a track and long jumping in a track.

We have given,

P(A) = 0.3; P(AUB) = 0.63; P(A ∩ B) = 0.17

We know that   P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B

  • 0.63 = 0.3 +P(B) – 0.17
  • P(B) = 0.5

Probability of a student running in a long jumping track is 0.5
