Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Level II is used for billing and medical coding. It is developed in 1980. Health care providers and other insurers used appropriately Level II code in an orderly manner. It is one of the codes used by the healthcare professional and consist of five alphanumeric characters means single alpha letter followed by four numeric letter. For example, J for injection, A for the ambulance, D for Dental services. It is used to code for medical supplies, non-physician services, ambulance services, prosthetics, orthotics, and other supplies of DEMOS. It includes the code that is not present in the Level I code. It is used for successful reimbursement of the items. In 2003, the CMS has undertaken the authority to maintain Level II code. HCPCS also consists of drug tables which are used to code the drug. Drug table is used to find the correct code. HCPCS modifier used as an element in procedural coding. HCPCS modifier helps to the code of bilateral procedure that is performed on the body. Usually, the modifier consists of two characters.
