Answer #1

Student has made a computational error.

HHI (Herfindahl-Hirschman Index) is a measure of competition prevailing iin the market and is used to evaluate the market concentration. HHI is calculated as taking the squares of the market size of each firm in the industry and then taking the summation.

HHI ranges from 0 to 10000

A higher HHI indicates that the market is highly concentrated. So, option a is not correct.

HHI of 22167 is not possible as it ranges from 0 to 10000. So, option b is also not correct.

A higher HHI indicates that the market is monopolistically competitive. However, such a huge range of HHI is not possible to occur in any market place. So, option c is incorrect.

As HHI ranges from 0 to 10000, the student must have committed some computational error in the calculation that lead to out of range HHI of 22,167. So, this option d is correct.

At first glance, the credit card market would seem to be a rather concentrated industry. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are the most familiar names, and over 60 percent of all charges are made using one of these three cards. But on closer examination,...

In The Five Competitive Forces That Shape Industry Competition, Porter identifies customer switching costs as one of the barriers to entry into an industry. The specific example that resonated with my work situation was about ERP software: “Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is an example of a product with very high switching costs. Once a company has installed SAP’s ERP system, for example, the costs of moving to a new vendor are astronomical because of embedded data, the fact that...

Attached is the memo that was covered briefly in the lecture video from this week. Open the attachment and read the memo. Then, write a better memo, using the principles you learned from the chapter and video (you may completely write a new memo, using information found in the memo.). Hint: a better memo would be MUCH shorter than the original. The key to writing a good memo in this case is to keep in mind how you would want...
