There is some controversy about many of the different types of drugs used to treat osteoporosis. One of the most popular osteoporosis drugs is Boniva. Sally Fields was a major spokesperson for this drug and in the ads claimed that Boniva could reverse bone loss. In 2012 the FDA stepped in and said that that claim was not supported by misleading evidence and was misleading. Boniva is a bisphosphonate drug and this category of drugs has been brought into questions because of some reported side effects and adverse effects. Hormone replacement therapy was a commonly used treatment for osteoporosis which has since been called into question because of the increased risk of cancer. So what do you think? Do a little bit more research on the pros and cons of these common drugs used to treat osteoporosis. Would you recommend these drugs to someone you know?
