Contact isolation
What are the personal protective equipment that are used in contact isolation?
Contact isolation is used when suspecting the presence of microorganisms which is transmitted from direct or indirect contact with patients.
Gown- to prevent contact with any surface
Googles- to prevent spillage if needed
Gloves- to prevent direct contact with patient skin.
Airborne isolation
What is the peculiarity of the room used for airborne isolation?
Negative pressure room is used in airborne isolation at a rate of 6 air change per day. negative pressure room prevents the escape of air from isolated room from adjacent areas and facilitate the transfer of fresh air to the room .
Droplet isolation
How mask plays an important role in droplet isolation?
In droplet infection, microorganisms can transmitted to other people by droplets which can travel about 3 feet while coughing or sneezing. Microorganisms can be seen abundantly in nasal mucosa, mouth and conjunctiva in these type of patients.
Thus wearing a surgical mask while traveling or exiting from room will prevent droplet infection.
