why is selection of the correct principal diagnosis so critical?

The principal diagnosis is one which is formulated because of the chief complaints of the patient to seek for medical help and get a treatment. This diagnosis can give a brief or entire knowledge on what a case is and what will be the diagnostic procedures, test , investigations, medication, treatment,etc., from admission to discharge. Hence while billing and reimbursement if there is any error with principal diagnosis then the whole billing may go wrong and hence it is critical.
