Answer #1

(1) (a)

On increasing volume, pressure decreases.

As per the Boyle's law, pressure is inversely proportional to volume.

Hence, increasing volume; decrease pressure.

(1) (b)

P1 = 0.875 atm

V1 = 15.0 mL

P2 = ?

V2 = 45.0 mL

According to Boyle's law,

P1V1 = P2V2

0.875 × 15 = P2 × 45

P2 = 0.875 × 15/45

P2 = 0.292 atm

(2)

Since, 1.473 g Mg has length of 93.5 cm.

0.0425 g Mg has length of = 93.5 cm × 0.0425 g / 1.473 cm

= 2.70 cm
