I'm doing a tax return for a S corporation that just began businesses, I was provided with the balanced sheet and income statement. The balance sheet only includes the ending balance but not the beginning balance. So I'm trying to fill up schedule M2, what should put where it asks for the beginning balalnce?

The balance at the beginning of the year should match the ending balance amount from last year's tax return, if the entity was required to complete schedule M-2 in the previous tax year. This beginning balance amount is reported on line 1 of schedule M-2. For those entities which are filing its tax reurn for the first time because of the reason that they are newly started, there may be no opening balances. In such a case, it is reliable to fill up Line 1 of Schedule M-2 with zeroes.
