From given data,

510 636 551 607 578

The Mean of the population is

\bar{x} = \Sigma x / n

= (510+636+551+607+578)/2

= 2882/5

= 576.4

The standard deviation of the population is

s = sqrt(\Sigma (x-\bar{x})2 / (n-1) )

s = sqrt((510-576.4)2+(636-576.4)2+(551-576.4)2+(607-576.4)2+(578-576.4)2)/(5-1) )

s = sqrt(9545.2 /4 )  

s = 48.85
