Question

16) A rollercoaster that is 20. m high starts going down the track with an initial velocity of 8.0 m/s and then approaches a loop with a radius of 3.0 m. What is the rollercoasters final velocity forces (friction, air resistance) are negligible and that the loop is a perfect circle. Vo- 8.0 m/s

Answer #1

Using energy conservation

mgh + 0.5 m u^2 = 0.5 m v^2 + mg ( 2R)

9.8* 20 + 0.5* 8^2 = 0.5* v^2 + 9.8* 2* 3

v = 18.396 m/s

    The Sidewinder is a shuttle type steel rollercoaster. The rollercoaster cart starts at the bottom of the frictionless track and is accelerated from a stand still over a distance of 7 meters. Then the cart enters the loop, rises to the top with just enough velocity to keep from stalling at the top of the loop. Gaining velocity the cart finishes the loop, bottoms out, and then rises up the vertical segment of the track. After stalling out at a...

    An object with cross section A is shot horizontally across frictionless ice. Its initial velocity is v0x at t0=0s. Air resistance is not negligible. A 1.8 m wide, 1.5 m high, 1700 kg car with a drag coefficient of 0.35 hits a very slick patch of ice while going 24 m/s . Air resistance is not negligible. If friction is neglected, how long will it take until the car's speed drops to 11 m/s ? To 5.0 m/s ?

Calculate the velocity of the arrow just after it is released by the bowstring by two methods: a) Calculate the arrow’s acceleration that is caused by the bowstring, and use kinematic equations to calculate the velocity at the end of the acceleration. Assume a constant acceleration that corresponds...

    Vo 5) h 200 m A driver coasts down a hill 200 m high with initial speed vo 40 m/s. The road has friction that results in a negative work -1.7 x 10 J. The effect of this is that the total initial energy is reduced by this amount by the time the car reaches the bottom of the hill. Calculate the speed of the car when it reaches the bottom of the hill. The mass of driver and passenger...
